The answer: <strong>ATTEST</strong>
This is your opportunity to articulate and clarify your ideas about a particular text. Your main points should not simply parrot readings which the instructor has given in class but should show evidence of original critical thinking on your part. Each of your main points should be well-developed and well-supported by direct reference to the text. You are required to use material from the text to prove, corroborate or accentuate your main points. Only in rare cases will it be necessary to cite extended passages from the texts. Usually short quotes (appropriated cited and accurately transcribed) will suffice. Paraphrasing and plot summary (used sparingly) along with direct quotation are ways to offer support to your argument. Quotations should be property introduced, incorporated and cited in your paper.
Style: You will be evaluated on your prose style. Your writing should be grammatical, precise and engaging. Inappropriate word usage, awkward syntax, wordiness and lack of specificity detract from your power to persuade and should be eliminated during the draft/revision stage.
